DEVILDRIVER Frontman: 'None Of Us Would Be Here Without' BLACK SABBATH

December 18, 2016

Revolver editor Sammi Chichester conducted an interview with DEVILDRIVER frontman Dez Fafara at the two-day Ozzfest Meets Knotfest event, which took place September 24-25 at San Manuel Amphitheater And Festival Grounds in San Bernardino, California. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked to recall the first time he heard BLACK SABBATH's music, Dez said: "It was two nights before Christmas. I went over to a friend's house and I was 15. And his roommate was doing bong hits upstairs, and it was the first time I ever smoked weed. And I went up and did bong hits and listened to 'Fairies Wear Boots'. And then from there on, it was done. I was done. I was way into SABBATH."

He continued: "My previous band [COAL CHAMBER], of course, I recorded with Ozzy [Osbourne, BLACK SABBATH singer] before. We've done a song together. I was very blessed to work with someone like that. And Sharon [Ozzy's wife] managed my career for many years, so I'm very thankful to her for that. But I got to tour with SABBATH, and not many people can say that. And I'm talking soccer stadiums all over Europe and Ozzfest many, many times. [They were] always a very generous, great band. But what they've done… I mean, none of us would be here without them, you know. I mean, what they've done is just instrumental in bringing heavy metal to the forefront."

Fafara revealed in another interview that his band would enter the studio in November and December to record "something really special," which he hinted could be an album consisting of country covers. He told Revolver: "[It's] not a new record per se. [It's] something no one has done, actually. So that's hard to say, but I'm saying it."

DEVILDRIVER's latest album, "Trust No One", was released in May via Napalm Records. The follow-up to 2013's "Winter Kills" was once again produced by Mark Lewis (ARSIS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER, DEICIDE, SIX FEET UNDER) with assistance from Jason Suecof (AUGUST BURNS RED, DEICIDE, DEATH ANGEL).

"Trust No One" entered The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 43 with first-week sales of just over 12,000 units — nearly all from pure album sales. The set follows the No. 32-peaking "Winter Kills", which was released in August 2013 and opened with 11,000 copies.
